Our Workshop Model
Week 1
We will discuss the importance of attending the classes, why we are meeting, what the expectations are, hand out first book – Rich Dad Poor Dad
Week 2
College application help. Group discussions on majors, top school, what target GPAs should be, in state verse out of state, state school vs private, other scholarship opportunities. Talk about student loans, taking summer classes at community school to save money if they can transfer credits. Work on Resume.
Week 3
We will dive into financial literacy. Talk about how to save money, what kind of savings accounts, investment accounts (ROTH, 401K, Mutual Funds, Stocks etc.). The importance of compound interest, paying yourself first.
Week 4
We will finalize resumes, discuss job applications/ internships and taxes and how to file a tax return. How to fill out the W4, what you need when you go to file your tax return, if you are an entrepreneur or have a side hustle how do you file (pros and cons).
Week 5
Volunteer to have Jonny come in as a guest speaker as career coach. Explore different career paths. We will also go over the importance of a budget.
Week 6
Credit education. What is credit? How do you build credit? Why are we scared of credit? How can we build our credit score? How to be responsible with credit.
Week 7
Value of ownership. Own verse Rent. BRRR strategy/ house hack. Long term wealth. Stats on ownership and net worth.
Week 8
A group discussion on being black and brown in this country. A “graduation” celebration. A recap of the last 8 weeks.
Students will attend all 8 workshops. Each student will be granted one absent, so long as the material missed is made up with Victor or one of the other team members. Students will complete all required reading and participate in all the discussions.
